Itinerary
Day One
Upon arrival at Marrakech Airport, you'll be warmly greeted by your guide before embarking on a scenic 1.5-hour transfer to Imlil, a charming mountain village nestled at 1,800 meters above sea level. Once there, ease into the adventure with a gentle acclimatization hike around the village, soaking in the fresh mountain air and picturesque surroundings. In the evening, unwind with a delicious traditional meal and a trip briefing in the comfort of your riad. Rest well in your cozy Imlil accommodation, preparing for the journey ahead.
Day Two
Start your day at 8:00 AM with a hearty breakfast in the riad, then prepare for the journey ahead by packing your overnight bags, which will be loaded onto mules (with the option to leave some belongings behind at the riad). At 9:00 AM, depart from the riad and set off on a rewarding hike. The morning begins with a 2-3 hour trek to a cozy coffee stop, perfect for relaxing and refueling. Continue with a 1.5-2 hour walk to the lunch spot, where our private chef will craft a delicious meal to recharge your energy. The final stretch of the day is a 1.5-hour trek leading to the mountain refuge at 3,500 meters, your resting place for the night. Wrap up the day with another delightful meal prepared by our chef, then settle in for an early night, ready for tomorrow's adventure.

Day Three
The day begins early at 4:00 AM with breakfast at the refuge, fueling up for the exciting summit ascent ahead. With head torches lighting the way, you'll start a slow, steady climb, pausing for short breaks to catch your breath and enjoy the quiet of the early morning. As you approach the summit ridge, the anticipation builds for the final 150-meter push to Toubkal’s peak at 4,167 meters! Standing at the highest point in North Africa, celebrate with photos and take in the breathtaking views. After savoring the moment, descend to the refuge for a well-earned lunch. The adventure continues with a descent to Imlil, including a refreshing tea stop along the way. In the evening, relax over a delicious dinner in the riad and toast to an incredible day of achievement!

FlightsPlease note flights are NOT included in the price of the trip to allow for individuals flexibility around travel times. However flights are fairly cheap when booked in advance. Ryanair & EasyJet fly from most major UK airports for around £100-£150 return plus luggage. You will need to arrive by midday on Thursday 18th September in order to catch our transfer to the mountains and complete our acclimatisation hike.

AccommodationAccommodation during the Mount Toubkal trip includes two nights stay in a comfortable riad in Imlil, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with cozy rooms and delicious meals. Prices are based on two people sharing a room. Please contact us if this is an issue for you. On the trek, you'll stay one night in the mountain refuge at 3,200 meters, the refuge provides essential facilities, and while it can busy and slightly chaotic, we will have our own private dorm and a table reserved for dinner. Sleeping arrangements are bunk beds in large dormitory rooms with shared bathrooms. There are showers available but don't expect any luxuries. It's only for one night and all part of the experience! There is no other mountain accomodation available for summit night.

Food, Drinks & SnacksAll main meals during the Mount Toubkal trip are included and freshly prepared, featuring delicious Moroccan dishes like tagines, couscous, and salads, along with plenty of tea and coffee. While snacks are not included, you can bring your own trail snacks such as nuts, energy bars, or dried fruit, which really help for an extra boost during the hike. If you have dietary requirements, please let us know in advance, we will try our best to plan ahead however it can be difficult to accommodate for some dietary requirements in the mountains. It may be easier to bring certain foods with you such as gluten free products which aren't able to be sourced in Imlil. Drinking water is provided during your stay, but extra drinks should be purchased at an extra cost. There is no alcohol sold in the riad in Imlil but it can be arranged in advance for our final night.

FitnessClimbing Mount Toubkal requires a fairly good level of fitness, but it is suitable to all hikers with moderate experience and endurance. The trek consists of long days of walking, including some steep ascents and varying terrain and prior to the trek, it's recommended to train with hiking, or regular cardio exercises, such as running, or cycling, and strength training to build stamina. While the trek doesn’t require technical climbing skills, a basic level of fitness will ensure you can enjoy the experience and tackle the altitude with confidence. AltitudeAt Mount Toubkal's altitude of 4,167 meters, some trekkers may experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headaches, nausea or fatigue, this can increase as you approach the summit. To minimize these effects, our itinerary includes a gradual ascent including an acclimatization hike which allows your body to adjust. While severe altitude sickness is rare at these heights, it’s important to listen to your body, stay hydrated, and follow our guide's advices. In most cases, proper pacing and acclimatisation are enough, but you may consult your doctor about medications like Diamox if you're concerned and you can contact us directly for more information on this if you're concerned.

InsuranceTravel insurance is essential for the Mount Toubkal trip, and it should cover trekking up to 4,167 meters, including medical emergencies, evacuation, and trip cancellations. Be sure to check your policy for altitude limits and ensure it includes any specific activities planned during your trek. We'll need a copy of your insurance details before the climb in case of emergencies.

WeatherSeptember is one of the best months to climb Mount Toubkal, with generally mild and stable weather. During the day, temperatures in the lower altitudes range from 20°C to 25°C, while higher elevations are cooler, especially near the summit. Nights can get chilly, with temperatures dropping to around 10°C to 0°C at the refuge, so warm layers are essential. Clear skies are common, offering great visibility and ideal trekking conditions, but it’s wise to be prepared for sudden changes in weather, including wind or rain.

LuggageDuring the Mount Toubkal trip, mules and muleteers will transport your overnight luggage, allowing you to hike with only a small daypack for essentials like water, snacks, and layers. You'll pack your overnight items into a duffel or soft bag, for the welfare of the mules we have a large bag limit of 15kg. Any belongings not needed on the trek can be securely stored at the riad in Imlil. This setup ensures you can focus on the hike without the burden of carrying heavy gear, making the journey more comfortable and enjoyable.

Currency & TipsThe currency used in Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD), and it's recommended to bring cash for small purchases, tips, and personal expenses during the Mount Toubkal trip. While credit cards are accepted in larger establishments in Marrakech, smaller villages like Imlil primarily operate on cash. Our guides get paid a good wage however it is custom to tip the guides, muleteers and chefs for their excellent service. Please expect to tip around £50 in total for the length of your stay. We will explain the breakdown of how much to give to each on the trip.
