If climbing Mount Toubkal has been sitting on your bucket list but you've never tackled a mountain before, you're probably wondering one thing…Can beginners climb Mount Toubkal?

The short answer is yes.
Every year, hundreds of people reach the summit of Mount Toubkal without any mountaineering experience. While it's certainly a challenge, it's much more achievable than many people think, especially with the right preparation and support.
What is Mount Toubkal?
Standing at 4,167 metres, Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa, located in Morocco's beautiful Atlas Mountains. Most people complete the trek over two days from the mountain village of Imlil, spending one night in a mountain refuge before an early morning summit attempt.
The route doesn't require ropes or technical climbing during the summer months. Instead, it's a challenging hike through varied mountain terrain, with the biggest challenges being the altitude and the long days on your feet.
Do you need hiking experience?
Previous hiking experience is helpful, but you don't need to be an experienced mountain walker to enjoy this trip.
If you've completed day hikes before and enjoy being outdoors, you'll already have a good foundation. What's far more important is arriving with a reasonable level of fitness and being prepared for several hours of walking each day.
Many of the women who join our trips have never climbed a mountain before. They're simply looking for a new challenge and a supportive environment to take it on.
What makes it challenging?
Mount Toubkal isn't technically difficult, but there are a few things to be aware of.
The altitude means you'll likely notice you're breathing harder than usual, particularly on summit day. The trails are rocky in places, and you'll be walking for several hours carrying a small day pack.
The summit day usually starts before sunrise and is the longest day of the trip, but it's also the most rewarding.
Is it suitable if you're nervous?
Absolutely.
It's completely normal to feel nervous before taking on your first mountain. In fact, many of our guests tell us they almost didn't book because they weren't sure they were "the kind of person" who could do something like this.
By the end of the trip, they're often amazed by what they've achieved.
The right group, experienced guides and good preparation make all the difference.
Why join a guided trip?
Planning a mountain trip abroad can feel overwhelming.
By joining a guided trip, you don't need to worry about navigation, mountain safety, accommodation or logistics. You can simply focus on enjoying the experience and taking on the challenge.
Our women-only trips include experienced local guides, airport transfers, accommodation, all meals during the trek and plenty of support before you even arrive in Morocco. We also book a private dorm in the mountain refuge, giving our groups a more comfortable and relaxed experience before summit day.
Is Mount Toubkal worth it?
Without question! Reaching the summit is an incredible achievement, but for many people it isn't the highlight. It's watching the sunrise over the Atlas Mountains, sharing mint tea after a long day of hiking, encouraging each other up the final climb and leaving with a group of women who started as strangers and finished as friends. If you're looking for a mountain that's challenging, achievable and unforgettable, Mount Toubkal is a brilliant place to start.
